Recommended Web Sites
|
- Webmonkey
The most complete and up-to-date source of useful information, reviews, tutorials, from Hotwired, the web site of Wired Magazine.
- Lynda.com
This site is produced by the author of Designing Web Graphics and Creative HTML Design (see Books). She is the source to go to for anything regarding graphics and color on web sites. She also leads great workshops and training programs.
- NCSA: National Center for Supercomputing Applications.
A very useful guide to HTML from a respected clearinghouse of computer information.
- How Do They Do That With HTML?
A popular, straightforward site by an engineering student at Case Western Reserve.
- HTML Writers Guild
Classes, bulletin boards, and many other resources for web site designers. You can join for free for the first year, although being a member does get you discounts on classes.
- The World Wide Web Consortium
Known familiarly as the W3C, this is the international body that develops standards of protocol for the web in order to preserve, i.e. what new HTML tags will be added, how CSS will work.... If you want to go to the official source, this is it.
- directNIC: Discount Domain Registration
This is my domain registrar of choice, both because of their excellent service and their low price. All domains are $15/year, and directNIC has a nifty domain name generator to help you find an alternative when your first choice is already taken.
- Quik Internet
This ISP hosts Well-Tempered as well as most of my clients. I recommend them to everyone because their service is the best, their rates are reasonable and they offer straightforward e-commerce solutions.
- "Magic" Background Color Test
A little Javascript exercise of mine that lets you sample possible browser-safe background colors.
If you have any suggestions for other sites, or if any of these links are dead, please let me know.
