Vanadzor (Page 3)
Vanadzor is very pretty. Compared with the other places I've visited so far, it has little building and road reconstruction going on. It's situated in a valley with impressive mountains all around. Something about the look of the mountains makes me feel like I am in North Carolina. One thing I really like about Armenia is how the public parks are used by young and old alike as a place to congregate and relax until late in the evenings. I noticed that in Gyumri and, on a much larger scale, in Yerevan. Vanadzor is no exception. There are parks where lots of people hang out, and a reservoir where you can swim and rent paddle or row boats. Ada took me there one afternoon after class, and it was very nice.
There are supposedly some very interesting monasteries to the north of Vanadzor, but given our schedule, I don't have the time to go there. Saturday is our last day of class here, and after lunch we will drive to Yerevan to pick up the new translator for our week in Kapan, which is about 5 hours south of Yerevan). Vahagn didn't want to stay in Kapan a whole week and leave Dog alone, so we will say good-bye tomorrow afternoon. I don't know how I would have coped without his excellent translating and people skills and I hope the new translator is at least half as good as Vahagn!
